We’re updating our lottery – a message from Sarah Vincent, our Lottery Manager on Tuesday 11th March 2025.
Dear all,
You may remember back in October last year we asked you to complete a survey regarding our weekly lottery. Following this we reviewed the lottery and we’re now excited to share with you our plans for what we hope is to be a positive change both for our charity and our supporters.
The Cornwall Hospice Care lottery is one of our biggest sources of income annually, contributing more than £550,000 each year towards the cost of the care we provide at our hospices and in the community.
For more than 19 years, there’s been a draw every week, creating hundreds of £1,000 jackpot winners and tens of thousands more winners through our 50 x £5 weekly runners up prizes. Throughout these years our lottery has remained largely unchanged, so now it’s time for us to make sure it can carry on for the next 19 years and beyond.
We realise that in today’s world of increasing costs the prizes we offer were due a review. What you could buy with a £5 prize nineteen years ago has decreased and we want our lottery players to stay engaged with us as we plan for the future, so we’re updating our prizes. Everyone will still be in with a chance to win our top prize of £1,000 every week, but our rollover prize will start at the higher level of £300 and will grow up to £3,000. There’ll also be the opportunity to win 13 larger runners up prizes of 5 x £50 and 8 x £25.
As part of this review, we also looked at the lottery ticket price. The cost of £1 per entry has stayed the same since we launched the lottery back in 2006, but our costs and services have grown considerably. We now need to find £6.9million a year to provide all the care we offer, money that comes almost entirely from our supporters.
For these reasons we’ve made the carefully considered decision to increase the price per entry to £1.50 as of the 1st of May this year (2025).
We appreciate that times are tough for us all and that’s why we’re keeping the increase as low as possible.
These changes and how they may affect each of our supporters, including you our staff and volunteers, will be made public next week. If you play the lottery through your salary, you’ll receive a letter shortly explaining what will happen in terms of updating your payment.

Thank you and best wishes,
Sarah Vincent, Lottery Manager.
