Donations that do good

Whilst we all love the buzz of buying new things, quite often it’s accompanied by a nagging feeling of guilt; your wardrobe is already full to bursting, your homewares are gathering dust in the cupboard, or your sofa no longer matches your colour scheme but still has plenty of life left.

If you donate to us, it means we can sell all these items through our Cornwall Hospice Care shops across the county, helping to fund the care at our hospices, reducing waste and saving others money.

How to reuse and recycle

There are lots of other ways to reuse or recycle your more well-loved items:

  • Your local recycling collection can take torn, stained or damaged fabrics
  • Cornwall Council can collect broken bulky items for a small fee
  • As a private seller, you ARE allowed to sell or give away upholstered items with no fire labels – you may find a home for them on your local Facebook Group or online marketplace

Find out more about recycling services offered by our local council.

We can collect your bulky furniture

If you can, we’d love you to bring furniture to our shops in Penryn, Truro, Penzance, St Austell and Wadebridge. For furniture too bulky to deliver to us – sofas, wardrobes, dining room tables and chairs etc. – we offer a FREE furniture collection service.

The easiest way to book this service is by completing our simple online form. Alternatively, you can phone our Collection Line on 01726 874066 – please wait to hear the options and choose the collection location nearest to you.

When you complete our form or call us, please have all your contact details and as much detail as possible about your items and property/vehicle access at the collection address. Please allow plenty of time for us to arrange collection – we suggest giving us as much notice as possible as our service is often in high demand.

When we visit, our team will quickly assess your donations and confirm what items we can and cannot take.

What is the Gift Aid scheme?

Gift Aid is a government scheme by which charities can reclaim tax on donations from a UK taxpayer. This means your donations of money and items will be worth 25% more, so for every £1 donated, we can claim an additional 25p. There is no cost to the donor.

Example: You donate a jacket to us and sign up for Gift Aid with us. We sell it for £10 in one of our shops. We can claim an extra £2.50 in Gift Aid from the government as long as you have paid £2.50 in UK tax to cover this. So your donation has now turned into £12.50!

You have to be a UK taxpayer to be able to Gift Aid your donation – meaning when you choose to Gift Aid, we need your full name and postal address so that the government can confirm you are eligible.

Just a few minutes of your time when you donate to us, will help us continue funding the care we can offer to our patients and the support we provide to their families – and remember, this is at no cost to you!

Find out more about Gift Aid on the government website.

The difference Gift Aid makes to our charity

Adding gift aid to your donations boosts your contribution by 25%. This means you are helping fund more hours of care for terminally ill people at no extra cost to you. You must pay enough UK tax to cover what we’ll claim. Every penny makes a difference, so registering for Gift Aid is worthwhile for all donations.

You can now sign up for Gift Aid simply and quickly using our online form. You can also sign up at any of our donation centres or when booking a furniture collection in-store, or by phone.
