Run Falmouth 2024 Start Line Run Falmouth Success

Run Falmouth success for Cornwall Hospice Care

On Sunday 17th March 2024 the 12th Run Falmouth Half Marathon took place, the event is organised by Cornwall Hospice Care and is supported by Falmouth Running Club. It forms part of the Cornwall Glass Road Running Grand Prix Series.

The entrants in the sold out event set off on the 13.1 mile course to sunshine peeping through the clouds after a wet registration. Neil Eddy crossed the line first in a time of 1.15.33 and was closely followed by Adam Holland of Launceston Road Runners.

The 2024 half marathon Run Falmouth race started at 10am with 622 runners setting off from Cliff Road below the Princess Pavilion.

Neil Eddy shared;

“I’ve not ran Falmouth before. It’s a super race, super tough, I don’t think you can get a road race much tougher than that with all the hills. It’s super well organised and fantastic volunteers the whole way round.”

The first woman home was Emily Harrison who clocked a time of 1.29.01;

“Cornwall Hospice Care means a lot to my family and I was thinking of them as I went round the course today.”

Some of the runners were using Run Falmouth as a training session for the forthcoming London Marathon including Derek Thomas who is not only raising money for Cornwall Hospice Care but is a volunteer trustee at the Cornish charity. Derek shared his experience of the day;

“It’s good, quite hilly and a bit wet in places! It’s been a great atmosphere lots of crowds, cheering and encouragement. It’s been really good preparation for London. Cornwall Hospice Care does such good work for the community, all over Cornwall.”

Run Falmouth attracts a wide range of entrants including club runners, people taking on personal challenges and those that want to raise money for Cornwall Hospice Care. Race Director Jane Appleton says it was a successful day;

“We’ve had another amazing Run Falmouth! The people, the place and the atmosphere have been wonderful, even the sunshine came out for us. I’d like to thank the team at Princess Pavilions, Falmouth Running Club, Devon and Cornwall 4×4, event sponsors The Sapphire Running Zone, Omega Medical and the army of volunteers without whom we just couldn’t have this half marathon. We’re now calculating how much the run has raised for our charity but we know it currently stands at just over £33,000! The proceeds will help fund the nursing care we provide at both of our adult hospices.”
