Lymphoedema Awareness Week 2024 runs from Monday 4th to Friday 8th March this year and gives the opportunity to raise awareness of this little talked about condition and shine a light on the work of our team of incredible Lymphoedema Specialist Practitioners.
We’re delighted therefore to share with you Amanda and Lianne’s Lymphoedema Story during Lymphoedema Awareness Week.
Amanda has been a patient at our Lymphoedema clinic for a number of years now, firstly being treated by Helen Treleaven at Mount Edgcumbe Hospice and latterly by the newest member of our team, Lianne Best.
Amanda has kindly and generously helped Lianne gain her practical experience on her way to qualifying as a Lymphoedema Specialist Practitioner, and sees it as her way to give something back for the care she has received at our Lymphoedema clinics.
Amanda told us;
“I just said automatically, if you need a guinea pig, I’m here because I think I’ve received so much from the hospice and particularly from Helen that any help I can give Lianne to treat more patients like me is what I should be doing.”
Lianne was very humbled that Amanda had approached her with the offer to use her to hone her practical skills. Lianne said;
“I had her in for some sessions and I really got to feel her tissues and feel the lymphatic fluid moving and for me, that was incredible.
She gave me so much confidence and her kindness as well. I just I can’t thank her enough.”
Amanda’s kindness and generosity will help safeguard our future providing this vital service for those suffering with this condition.
