We thank you for attending our Light Up A Life service at Truro Cathedral on Sunday 8th December and hope that it provided you with some peace and comfort this Christmas.

You will have reached this page by scanning the QR code on the back of the glass heart included in the card on your seat at the service.  We thought you’d like to know why these glass hearts are so special to us.

We’re humbled by the generosity of  Niko Brown – Fused Glass – Cornwall for her continued support with donated beautiful glass hearts which we can give to patients and families at the most difficult times.  They are included in our Little Bags of Kindness that each patient staying with us receives.

She offered this gesture to us during Covid when visiting for lots of families was difficult – and Niko has continued to support us by supplying hearts that we can give to families and patients.

Here’s just one touching story of the comfort that these hearts bring to patients and their families:

One of our clinical team at St Julias Hospice was supporting a patient, an elderly lady and her daughter.  The mother was peacefully dying but fully aware of her daughters presence. Communication was limited, so the healthcare assistant used a glass heart; its their shape and form and coolness, to convey a sense of meaning as they held it between them. Following the mothers death, the healthcare assistant ensured that the daughter took the heart with her as she left our hospice.
