Our Therapy Team help our patients to live, not just exist. They do this by getting to know our patients to understand what’s important to them.
We can take time with our patients to really understand their true goals. It can be easy to think that these goals are about independence but when you delve a bit deeper it’s often “the little things” in life that really matter most. When someone only has a small amount of energy or they are in pain a lot of the time, it is important to understand what’s important and truly meaningful to them so that they can concentrate on living, not just existing.
This team are a key part of the holistic approach of our hospice care. Our patients often find that illness has a significant impact on their ability to engage in activities of daily living; activities they may have cherished. As well as limiting their independence, this can also have an impact on wellbeing, sense of self and purpose and may contribute to difficult feelings such as sadness, anger and guilt.
Our Cornwall Hospice Care Therapy Team includes Complementary Therapists, Lymphoedema Practitioners, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Therapy Assistants who work closely together and with our wider nursing teams.
They consider physical and psychological health needs, physical and social environments, resources and support systems.. They aim to help patients adapt to their changing condition, maximising functional ability, maintaining or improving independence where possible and enhancing wellbeing and quality of life – all what’s important to them.
